What does "Student Government" mean?
I usually don’t post about things not related to environmental or media topics on here, but I felt compelled today to write about something that’s been on my mind lately. The University of Michigan will be having its annual Central Student Government presidential elections in less than a month, and students have begun announcing their candidacy over the last few weeks. I’m not...

Going Green is No Joke.
That’s right. Practicing environmentally friendly behaviors should be the norm, and not the exception. But even with the increasing awareness of environmental problems around the world, people still find ways to poke fun at those who live greener lifestyles. I generally like to take a very practical approach to environmental change. I’m not a crazy activist that rallies around town...

Climate Adaptation: GOOD Magazine has jumped the... →
I don’t follow GOOD Magazine, but after reading the post and the referenced article below, I wonder about the legitimacy of such journalism. Journalists have the power to influence their readership through their words, and that’s not a privilege that should be abused in the name of sensationalism or controversy. Read on: climateadaptation: I’ve written three pieces for GOOD, and...

Revkin.net: Al Gore on Obama and climate change... →
Might require a bit of link-hopping, but worth reading: revkin: Al Gore is right that Obama has dropped energy/climate ball but Rolling Stone essay is wasted opportunity. @DotEarth: Gore’s essay [is] mostly a rehashed and padded sermon to the converted, with heaps of boilerplate on the science and information wars and very little beyond a plea to Obama to…

Selling skin color--and falsely
I can’t stand that Katrina Kaif is the face of Olay’s Natural White skin-lightening cream. For one thing, it’s ridiculous that people still spend money on products that rarely work just to make their skin a few shades lighter. But this idea has been around in India (and most of Asia) for so long that it probably won’t fade any time soon. At the very least, Olay could be...

omn-blog: We’ve all heard about the gender gap in the workplace where women make less than men (as much as 12% less according to Business Insider). But things are on the up for today’s working woman. According to LearnVest: Today, 7% more women in their 20s and 30s have bachelor’s degrees than men

"Something happened"
Food for thought. Here’s the email I just received from Obama for America (I’ve been on the mailing list a while): I spent this week moving boxes and getting set up in our new campaign headquarters in Chicago, but something happened in Washington that I want to make sure you know about.  The CEOs from the five major oil companies — which together booked $36 billion in profits...

It’s so great to see students so passionate about small changes that can make big impacts. The Michigan Student Assembly’s Environmental Issues commission began a petition this past semester to ban the sale of bottled water on campus, instead advocating for more water refilling stations. Read on above to see how making this small change can have a huge diffference.
